FREEING HEARING BONE

RELEASING MASTOID BONE AND SQUAMOUS BONE:

(a ) Place le ft hand with tips of fin gers locked in front
of mastoid bone ju st behind lobe of e a r ^ W i t h w rist

(b) F lip hands in opposite d ir e c tio n , right hand going
forward and upward while hooking under bony arch; le ft
hand p u llin g mastoid bone backward and upward.
T h is e xe rcise helps free the s e c tio n (c a lle d the Petrus
p o rtio n o f the "h e a r in g bond') i n which the o s s ic le s (or
small bones) of the ear are located. They are called
m alius, incus and sta p le s; or hammer, an v il and s tir r u p .
A fte r sounds have resounded the tympanium into a c tio n ,
these bones v ib r a t e , thus the au dito ry nerves carry the
sound to the b r a in fo r i n t e r p r e t a t io n . T h is exe rcise may h elp
r e l e a s e 1 the mastoid bone and squamous bone from pressure
upon the hearing bone, thus g i v i n g room fo r the spread of
bone from fro nt and back p o rt io n s.
