Like many similar organizations the Delta Sigma Chi had
a very m odest origin. W ith a nucleus of a few men it now
boasts o f a membership o f a thousand members. These mem
bers are scattered over all parts o f the earth and in every
state in the Union and not a few are battling in the great
W orld W ar for D em ocracy. The rest are alieviating the suf
ferings o f humanity in their respective locations.
B elieving that the truest history is that w hich is written
on the field o f action at first hand observation the follow in g
extracts are lifted from the records of the fraternity. On
page 30 o f the Secretary’s R ecord appears this caption:

SIGMA CHI A T DAVENPORT, IO W A .
On M on d ay evening, July 14, 1913, a grou p o f five men,
met in one of the offices of the Davenport College o f Chiro
practic, for the purpose of organizing a Professional Frater
nity.
The meeting was called to order by J. I). Hills, who
nominated J. H. Reardon for tem porary chairman, who was
elected by unanimous vote. Dr. J. I.. Sharp then nom inated
H. A. Hughes for tem porary secretary, who was also elected
by unanimous vote.
The follow ing committee was appointed by the chairman
to draw up a constitution, by-laws and adopt a name for the
society. H. A. Hughes, Chairman; J. D. Hills, H. D. Cum
mings, J. H. Reardon.
It was m oved and seconded that a meeting be called on
T hursday night, July 17, to hear the report o f the com m it
tee and to com plete the organization, by adoption o f said
constitution, by-laws and name o f society.
