send to my good friend M r . Seely, M an ager of T h e G rove P ark Inn,
A sheville, N . C ., and ask him to tell you all about it, then you’ll better
understand w h y I think so much of my B iltm ore Hom espun suits.
A nd, should you send for samples and get some suits, you w ill never
go back to anything else, partially because they hardly ever w ear out,
and, second— you just never would anyhow.

P .S .— I am not interested in them in any manner, shape or form , but
I am in you— my friends “ over-the-air.”

Some of the fotos here contained are not as clear as m ight be
expected for perfect w ork. T h is w as due to several reasons. T h e light
w as so intense that it w as an unknow n factor to us. T h e E nglish
films w ere faster than we had been used t o ; and the local fotografers
were alw ays an unknown quantity tliruout the entire F a r Eastern
countries. W e offer no apologies, w e did the best w e could— w e m erely
offer the explanation.

N aturally, we were very proud of D ave, who, as our “ staff fotografer,”
took practically all the fotografs reproduced in this book, and on the en
tire trip. E ach of us laid out our portion of the w o rk and each developed
him self to doing it w ell. In other words, w e were “ organized” to make a
success of this the same as w e w ould organize a business to accomplish its
objective. T h e author (fath er) pays tribute to the “ staff foto grafer”
(his son) for the excellent artistic w ork done in the pictorial line.

W e had the choice of one company that charged very low

prices, herded the people, took them on certain w ell-w orn

travel paths, and bunched them in groups. Y o u had to

stay together, for your time was not your own, and you saw and thought

ju st w hat they w anted you to see and think. N a tu ra lly , to secure favors

from certain Governm ents, they must give certain favors to these G o vern

ments by w ay of m aking certain observations possible that best pleases that

Governm ent through which they are passing.

Did we want that? N o!

Betw een that company and the one we chose there were m any grades,

qualities, and values.

W e had the choice of taking a “ ’round the w o rld cruise” as they

are so w e ll known and advertised. In this you get on a boat at N e w

Y o rk , you stay on that boat until you arrive back toN ew Y o rk , or

until you leave that ship at some port in Europe to come home via

several optional routes. O n these “ cruises” you p ractically see only
